SYMBIOZZ Studio designs ecolodges, retreats and hospitality places in Morocco, in bio-based materials, set lightly on the land, between ancestral know-how and contemporary design.
Material
Cork, a skin that breathes
All our homes are insulated with expanded cork from the Maâmora, near Rabat, the largest continuous cork oak forest in the world. Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak, harvested by hand roughly every nine years without felling the tree.
Cork insulates against heat and cold and absorbs sound. It lets water vapour through: the walls regulate indoor humidity and stay healthy. Bound with its own natural resin, it releases no volatile compounds. The air inside is the air of a healthy home.
This is what SYMBIOZZ means: working with what is already here. A Moroccan resource that takes care of those who live in the home, and is dismantled with it on the day the land returns to its original state.
Thermal insulation · Acoustic comfort · Healthy indoor air · Renewable resource
